120 Slides Per Hour, Automatic Slide Maker & Stainer by Maccura is a highly advanced and efficient instrument designed to streamline and standardize the process of slide preparation and staining in hematology laboratories. Engineered for both speed and accuracy, the AS 120 delivers a printing throughput of up to 120 slides per hour and supports two operational preparation modes—standard mode at 30 tests per hour and fast mode at 60 tests per hour—allowing laboratories to adapt according to workload requirements. The system is capable of fully automated slide spreading, staining, and printing, with four flexible operating modes: spreading and staining (default), spreading only, staining only, and printing only.
Utilizing cutting-edge technology, the AS 120 employs a highly durable sapphire glass spreader that requires no maintenance, and incorporates an intelligent viscosity detection system that automatically adjusts parameters based on sample characteristics. The slide preparation process is further enhanced by features such as controlled air-drying, automated flushing, and consistent division of the smear into three analytical regions: head (K1), body (K2), and tail (K3), ensuring high-quality blood film morphology.
The staining process is based on the Wright-Geimsa method, and includes pre-immobilization with methanol for optimal cell structure preservation. The instrument's stain tanks feature an automatic anti-volatilization lid to minimize reagent loss, and support multiple slides per staining tank, all while maintaining automatic cleaning and maintenance functions. Additionally, the AS 120 features a high-resolution thermal transfer printing mechanism with customizable label templates including text, barcode, and QR code options.
Designed for ease of use and long-term reliability, the AS 120 offers both standalone operation and integration with Maccura’s LABAS F9000 or F9000X track systems. The system is compatible with EDTA-anticoagulated blood samples and includes a comprehensive maintenance program with daily and weekly cleaning cycles using methanol or ethanol. Compared to other leading brands such as Sysmex, Mindray, Horiba, Abbott, and Beckman, the AS 120 stands out for its automatic stain tank maintenance, anti-volatilization features, viscosity detection, and multi-slide staining capabilities, providing superior performance and user convenience in high-demand laboratory environments.
